Mr. Musings & Meta-tations: 😍
It’s that time of year again – end of one year, and time to ring in a New Year. The new year can be an exciting time for many people. We often associate January with “a fresh start”, or resolutions, or “new year, new you”-type slogans. It’s even fun to hear how creative people can get with the different slogans to rhyme with the year.
It’s always great to say goodbye to old habits and behaviors that we’ve been meaning to part ways with. To resolve to do, and be, better. To give it another try to become more organized, healthier, financially responsible, nicer, etc.
We have so much to be thankful for as we reflect on the past year – all the challenges that God has brought us through and all the things that were accomplished. He has been faithful to us from before the foundation of the world, and knew what we would need from year-to-year and day-to-day. He is El Olam – the Everlasting God. He is constant, and unchanging. Jesus came to earth, as it says in Isaiah 9:6, to be both man and personification of the Everlasting Father. He modeled what it could look like to live on earth without the ups and downs of spiritual and emotional turbulence.
Jesus stayed consistent and close to the Father for strength, purpose, discernment, and guidance. As we head into the new year, we want to emulate Jesus in how we should conduct ourselves in the various areas of our lives. Achieving the next level in the areas of health, finance, organization, kindness, and compassion is less about making radical changes in our daily lives, and more about staying close to the Father and remaining consistent in doing the things in the proper way, and with the right heart posture.
The reason so many resolutions fail or we come up short when making drastic changes is because we haven’t had enough time to reinforce the new desired behaviors to form the new habits. Instead, making steady incremental changes with help from Holy Spirit will allow us to embrace the consistency and discipline that Jesus demonstrated to achieve all the things He’s called us to in the coming year.
