Committed to Obedience

Hey friends! Let’s talk about OBEDIENCE, of all things lol. I was planning on writing about other subjects (ANY other subject 😄), but I have to be obedient. So here we go!

“Obedience is better than sacrifice…” (1 Samuel 5:22)

“If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.” (Isaiah 1:19)

If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.” (Job 36:11)

This obedience thing seems like it comes with some perks. No unnecessary sacrifice. Good of the land. Prosperity and pleasures. Who wouldn’t want to obey with these kind of benefits available?

Yet…we sometimes (!) find it difficult to obey! Screeching halt. Come again? All the GREAT benefits of obedience and we have trouble following through??

Absolutely!

Humans by nature aren’t the most obedient crew. Just talk to any child and you will see that one’s desires often trump the given directives! 🤯 They may not “mean” to hurt their parents’ feelings by their disobedience, but the end result is the same–no matter the motive.

We as adults even (ahem!) have myriad explanations as to why we can’t do what Abba tells us to do. They all seem so valid at the time and can produce a false sense of peace (more like, bullet dodged lol).

However, dare I say, that strategic instruction avoidance (disobedience) in the short term produces despair and dissatisfaction in the long term?🤔 Disobedience brings separation between us and the One we love; it puts a strain on our relationship. Not because God doesn’t want to talk to us; it’s usually us that drift away. Yikes!

So folks—open confession is good for the soul… I’m done with disobedience! Its consequences are too high for my liking!  I am determined to be committed to obedience! I don’t want to dishonor Daddy anymore. 😖

How about you?
