Wrestle to Rest

“Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” (Hebrews 4:11 KJV)

Now isn’t that the truth?! Dare I say, we must wrestle to rest? The rest of the King of kings and Lord of lords doesn’t initially come easy. However, we must remember who we are in Him and the benefits of rest. We don’t want to fall or fail because of disobedience.

Why is it such a labor/wrestle/struggle, etc? My theory is that our natural man, our natural tendency is toward activity. We always feel like we need to be doing something.  As if doing something, in this Kingdom, puts us any higher on the list of deserving recipients of God’s grace.

Our labor is to rest. That sounds like a lazy man’s dream lol! But it’s actually anything but lazy. It’s trusting. Who do we trust? Our own ability to get the job done or the one who called us to rest in the first place? Who do we trust in? Us or Him?

Our level of rest is indicative of our level of trust in God. When we trust, we rest. There’s no other way to explain it or get around it.

We are approaching the end of the year, with alllllll of the things. However, let this year be different. Let’s be super intentional to follow His directives from a place of rest. Even if we do have to wrestle.. we win!
