He’s someone they will meet at the end of their life on earth, or He’s someone they just don’t know how to relate to. Maybe they don’t relate to Him because they think there are too many rules to follow, and they just don’t like rules. These common misconceptions of God cause many to embrace a wrong mindset about God, and consequently, about themselves.

In Psalms 89, the author goes to great lengths to describe just how powerful and expansive God is – not just in a future afterlife, but in the here and now. The author mentions God’s attributes as both the establishment of His character and the motive for being near to His people. Psalm 89:14 says “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.”

From Psalm 89, we learn that God is righteous, just, and holy. He is mighty, steadfast, and faithful. All of these individually are strong traits, and require a lot of effort from us to even partially achieve. For God, it’s just part of who He is. From a place of love, God has formed a covenant with David and his lineage. God’s faithfulness to the covenant comes from a place of justice, righteousness, and steadfast love. He is mighty enough to keep His promises and establish an entire people for eternity – including in a person’s daily walk, their life after time on earth, and even their descendants.

Not only is God mighty enough to be faithful to His promises, we see in verses 30-34 the limitations and the inconsistent nature of man. God knows the people will not be able to remain at the same level of steadfastness for all time. He is forgiving towards His people, and also strong enough to make up the shortcomings of man while also performing His Word.

While we may not know how be as faithful as God, we can gradually learn to be more faithful like God. We were made in His image and likeness; and are meant to bear His nature. Learning to be faithful and steadfast helps us draw out the other qualities He’s hidden in us and gives us the confidence and passion to pursue more of what He’s called us to. We can walk with Him in our day-to-day as He establishes His covenant in our lives, and let His love and faithfulness go before us to help those around us.

~mnm

Here is another post from Mr. Musings & Meta-tations himself. 👌👌👌 For many, God is a distant & far-off concept.
